Tricky Teens

Numbers 10-14

Numbers 15-19

Over the past two days we have been exploring the tricky teens.  We've talked a lot about how numbers in the teens are made up of "a ten and some ones."  We made chains with links; each student made a ten out of black links.  Then, each student made a different number from their ten by adding orange links.  12, for example, was 1 black ten and 2 orange ones.  Next we are going to label our tricky teens and hang them up in the room.  That means we get to enjoy our numbers, see a growing number line AND decorate our classroom for Halloween!

Firefighters visit

The Bar Harbor Fire Department is awesome- and not just at fighting fires.  They visited our school on Thursday to give a presentation to all the Kindergarteners.  We learned about fire safety, what the firefighters wear to stay safe, and what we should do in case of an emergency.  We also got to check out the ladder truck, and the huge hose!  Here are some photos...

Our week was wonderfully busy.  We painted a class number book, explored sentence making, and have worked really hard on our Phonics Dance.  You should ask your child about the rhymes we do to learn our letter sounds.  Today, for example, we learned the letter "D" and the little rhyme involves your child digging like a dog, barking, and hopefully matching the /d/ sound to the letter :)

Also, today your child will bring home in her/her green folder a letter regarding parent-teacher conferences that I will be having soon.  Be sure to read and return that ASAP... thank you.  Have a great weekend!
