Snowshoes!

We tested our new snowshoes today in the snow that fell this morning... What fun! Getting them on and off was the hardest part, but we really enjoyed exploring the playground in them :)

Where to begin?

When there is almost a full month between blog posts, it is a bit daunting to figure out what to include and what to pass over.  We have done so much these past few weeks, so instead of focusing on one day or event I am going to provide some highlights, in the form of a list Top Five Kindergarten Moments Since February 27, 2012 :)

5.
Today, we got to learn about how we can participate in the Science Fair, which will be on April 12, 2012.  We were VERY interested in this, as we are all scientists in this classroom!

4.  We had SNOW to play in!  For one day, but it was better than nothing.  Recess that day was pretty awesome!  The slide goes very fast with snow and snowpants :)

In fact, recess was so fun it inspired Mrs. Fournier to go home and have recess with her dog!  It'd be fun if he came to school sometime...

3.  On Dr. Seuss Day, Miss Colby- I mean, Thing 2- came and read us The Cat in the Hat.  We decided Dr. Seuss is a wonderful author that we all enjoy!

2. We are illustrators!  We have really been working on "Think" and "Draw" in our writing process...

1. ...and of course we know that the last step is Think, Draw... WRITE!  Our writing skills grow each day, and I am so proud of what we are producing these days.  I can't wait to see how much more we grow from now until the end of the year :)

Smoothies, muffins and other things that make us happy!

Many thanks to Nicholas' mom, who helped us make smoothies last week.  We ALL got to press the button, don't worry!  The batches of smoothies we whipped up were delicious, and gave us lots of energy to have yet another great day in Kindergarten.  The menu consisted of Applesauce Muffins and Strawberry-Banana Soy Smoothies...

Also, just a reminder that with pretty chilly temps and the always-possible snow shower, students should be bringing snow pants, boots, hats and glovers/mittens to school each day.  If it is one of those random 45-degree days with no snow on the ground, obviously disregard... but otherwise, have the kiddos bundle up!  I can guarantee that even if there is just one small mound of snow, the children will inevitably climb on, under, in and around it... so it is better to be safe than sorry!

I have some free time on my hands, due to today's delayed opening.  I thought I'd share a few cute pictures from yesterday, as the snow started to fall on us during recess.

Today we will be talking about Martin Luther King Jr. and his efforts to make sure all people were treated equally, no matter what they looked like or where they came from.  I will be reading a story called Ron's Big Mission that I actually learned about when teaching a second grade civil rights unit in Mississippi.  It is a great tool for teaching empathy, and I want you to be familiar with the book in case it comes up this weekend or in the future.
